Turn your oven on to 350°F (175°C). Get two baking sheets ready with some parchment paper.

Grab a bowl and sift together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking soda.

Mix the softened butter and sugar together in a big bowl until fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and egg, then stir well.

Slowly add the dry ingredients and buttermilk into the butter mixture a little at a time. Toss in some red food coloring and mix until smooth.
