Classic Two-Meat Sauce (Print)

Bold tomato flavor meets two meats, plus a slow simmer for perfect taste. A must-try for your pasta nights!

# Ingredients:

→ Meats

01 - 1 pound lean ground beef
02 - 1 pound spicy Italian sausage

→ Vegetables & Herbs

03 - 1/3 cup parsley, freshly chopped
04 - 5 garlic cloves, finely minced
05 - 1 large sweet onion, chopped into small pieces

→ Tomato Base

06 - 1/2 cup broth (chicken or beef)
07 - 28-ounce can of crushed tomatoes
08 - 15 ounces of fire-roasted diced tomatoes
09 - 12 ounces of tomato paste

→ Seasonings

10 - 1 teaspoon coarse salt
11 - 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
12 - 2 tablespoons of plain sugar
13 - 2 teaspoons dried Italian herb blend

# Steps:

01 - In a big pot over medium-high heat, cook the sausage and beef. Break the meat apart while cooking. Toss in the onion and garlic, stir it up, and cook until the meat's browned. Drain off any extra grease.
02 - Switch to medium heat. Mix in the sugar, Italian herbs, salt, pepper, parsley, and tomato paste. Stir everything until it looks blended.
03 - Pour in the crushed tomatoes, diced fire-roasted tomatoes, and broth. Give it a good stir so it's evenly mixed.
04 - Let it simmer, then lower the heat to the lowest setting. Let it cook for an hour, or for 3-4 hours if you want the flavors to really come through.

# Notes:

01 - A bit of sugar makes the tomatoes taste less acidic.
02 - Cooking it longer brings out richer flavors.
