Sweet Orange Treats (Print)

Take orange peels and make them sweet, shiny, and tasty. Great for adding to drinks or just snacking.

# Ingredients:

01 - 3 pounds of navel oranges (about 4).
02 - Granulated sugar, 4 cups.

# Steps:

01 - Slice off the ends of the oranges. Score the peel from top to bottom, remove it in pieces, and slice into strips about 1/4 inch wide.
02 - Bring the peels to a boil in fresh water, drain, and rinse. Do this twice, boiling 10 minutes each time.
03 - Cook the peels in sugar syrup for 40-45 minutes. Keep going until they're see-through.
04 - Drain well and place the peels on a rack for about 30 minutes to dry out.
05 - Roll the peels around in the leftover sugar to coat them.
06 - Leave the coated peels at room temperature for a full day to dry completely.

# Notes:

01 - Shave off any thick white pith, leaving about 1/8 inch.
02 - Use a pot that’s wide to avoid splashes.
03 - Take your time—don’t rush the candying process.
