# Ingredients:

→ Filling

01 - 1 tablespoon olive oil
02 - 1 pound lean ground beef
03 - 1 small onion, finely diced
04 - 1 green bell pepper, diced
05 - 4 cloves garlic, minced
06 - 1 cup reduced sodium beef broth
07 - 1 tablespoon cornstarch
08 - 1 ½ teaspoons beef bouillon
09 - 2 tablespoons ketchup
10 - 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
11 - 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
12 - 1 teaspoon dried oregano
13 - 1 teaspoon dried parsley
14 - ½ teaspoon salt
15 - ½ teaspoon black pepper
16 - ½ teaspoon dried basil
17 - ½ teaspoon paprika
18 - ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes, adjust to taste
19 - ¾ cup freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese

→ Buns

20 - 6 brioche hamburger buns
21 - Softened butter or mayonnaise for brushing (optional)
22 - 6 slices provolone cheese

# Steps:

01 - Preheat oven to 400°F. Split buns and lay them cut side up on a large baking tray (15x21). Lightly brush the cut sides with softened butter or mayonnaise if desired. Bake for 5 minutes to toast the buns.
02 - Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, onion, and green bell pepper. Cook until beef is browned and onions are softened, about 7 minutes. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
03 - In a liquid measuring cup, whisk together beef broth, cornstarch, and beef bouillon until smooth. Add this mixture to the skillet, followed by ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, dried oregano, dried parsley, salt, pepper, dried basil, paprika, and red pepper flakes.
04 - Gently simmer the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid has been absorbed but it remains slightly saucy, about 5 minutes. Stir in the sharp cheddar cheese until melted. Adjust seasoning with additional salt, pepper, or red pepper flakes as needed.
05 - Divide the meat mixture between the bottom halves of the toasted buns. Top each portion with a slice of provolone cheese. Place both halves of the buns back in the oven, cut side up, at 400°F for 5-10 minutes, or until the provolone is completely melted. Assemble the sandwiches and serve immediately.

# Notes:

01 - The recipe can be prepared ahead of time. Reheat the meat mixture and assemble the sandwiches just before serving.
