Set the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch pan lightly.

Combine the melted butter with the cake mix until crumbly. Take about 2/3 of it and press into the greased pan.

Evenly cover the base layer with the lemon pie filling.

Blend cream cheese, egg, sugar, vanilla, and zest until the mixture is smooth. Pour this over the lemon layer.

Crumble the rest of the cake mix on top. Bake for 35–40 minutes until firm and golden.

Let it rest 30 minutes before cutting into pieces. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top if you’d like.
