Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken (Print)

Crispy chicken chunks tossed in a glossy honey garlic sauce. It takes 30 minutes to make and works as a meal or starter.

# Ingredients:

01 - Sesame seeds to sprinkle on top.
02 - 2 egg whites, whisked.
03 - 2-3 minced garlic cloves.
04 - 4 tablespoons of runny honey.
05 - 1 tablespoon of cornstarch.
06 - A pinch of salt.
07 - 1 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper.
08 - 1 green onion, sliced up.
09 - Oil (canola or vegetable) for deep frying, about an inch in a pan.
10 - 2 tablespoons of soy sauce.
11 - 1 pound of skinless chicken thighs or breasts, diced into small chunks.

# Steps:

01 - Turn the oven on to 200°F. Cover a baking tray with parchment paper. Prepare a saucepan for the sauce, and pour about an inch of oil into a frying pan.
02 - Whip together egg whites, salt, and cornstarch until fluffy. Toss the chicken pieces in and let them soak for 10-15 minutes while the oil warms up.
03 - Warm the oil in a big frying pan to around 350-360°F. You can use a thermometer or test it by placing the handle of a wooden spoon in—the oil should steadily bubble.
04 - Cook the chicken in small portions for 3-4 minutes until it’s got that nice golden color. Let it drain on paper towels and keep them warm in the oven as you work.
05 - Cook the honey, soy sauce, garlic, and black pepper in a pot for a minute or two until it thickens up. Mix it well with the fried chicken pieces.
06 - Scatter on some sesame seeds and chopped green onion just before serving. Make sure it’s nice and hot when served.

# Notes:

01 - Keep it in the oven at 200°F for up to 45 minutes to stay warm.
02 - Make extra sauce if you’re pairing it with rice.
03 - Marinate with a splash of sesame oil or oyster sauce for deeper flavor.
