Festive Holiday Treats (Print)

Bright green-coated cake pops filled with red velvet, topped with tiny red hearts for a cheerful holiday snack.

# Ingredients:

01 - One box (15.25 oz) of red velvet cake mix, prepared as directed.
02 - 4 oz cream cheese, at room temperature.
03 - A pinch of salt.
04 - 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar.
05 - 24 ounces of light green candy melts.
06 - 1 tsp vegetable shortening.
07 - Sticks for cake pops.
08 - Small red candy hearts.

# Steps:

01 - Prepare and bake the red velvet cake as per the box directions. Let it cool completely.
02 - Mix together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and salt until it’s completely smooth.
03 - Crumble up the baked cake and slowly combine it with the frosting until you get a moldable texture.
04 - Scoop out portions (about one tablespoon each) and roll into balls. Let them chill for 10 minutes in the freezer or about 30 minutes in the fridge.
05 - Warm the candy melts and shortening in the microwave in short 30-second steps, stirring each time.
06 - Dip the tip of each stick in the melted candy and insert into the balls. Pop them into the freezer for 10-15 minutes.
07 - Fully coat each ball in the melted candy, tapping off extra coating. Stand them upright until the coating is firm.
08 - Once the coating sets, add green candy stripes or a red heart as decoration. Let everything dry completely.

# Notes:

01 - Add the frosting bit by bit.
02 - Work with smaller batches.
03 - Include ribbons for decoration, if you’d like.
