German Frikadellen (Print)

Juicy German-style patties made with seasoned pork and beef. Great as a meal or sandwich filling, bringing comfort food vibes.

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 pound of ground beef or a mix with pork.
02 - Minced small onion.
03 - 1 finely chopped garlic clove.
04 - 1 large egg, beaten.
05 - Day-old slice of white bread.
06 - 1/4 cup milk, preferably whole.
07 - Yellow or Dijon mustard, about a teaspoon.
08 - 1 teaspoon of salt to taste.
09 - Half a teaspoon black pepper.
10 - Dried paprika powder, 1/2 teaspoon.
11 - Optional: A dash of dried marjoram, about 1/2 teaspoon.
12 - Chopped fresh parsley, 1 tablespoon.
13 - 2 tablespoons cooking oil or butter.

# Steps:

01 - Soak the bread in milk for around 5 minutes. Squeeze gently to remove milk, then crumble it up into little pieces.
02 - Toss soaked bread, meat, onion, garlic, egg, and spices into a bowl. Stir lightly until just mixed, so the texture stays soft.
03 - Divide the mixture into 4 to 6 even chunks. Press into oval patties around 1/2 inch in thickness.
04 - Warm up a pan with butter or oil over medium. Fry the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, ensuring they’re browned and hit 160°F inside.
05 - Let patties sit for a moment. Serve them warm alongside bread or spuds.

# Notes:

01 - Sprinkle in cayenne or nutmeg for a fun twist.
02 - Tastes amazing cold in a sandwich the next day.
03 - Bake them instead of frying—25 minutes at 375°F works great.
