Chicken Cordon Bleu Bake (Print)

A flavorful twist on a French favorite. Chicken, Swiss, and ham layered with a creamy sauce and crispy topping.

# Ingredients:

→ Base Layer

01 - 8 ounces Swiss cheese slices
02 - 9 ounces black forest ham cut into thin strips
03 - 5 cups pulled chicken

→ Sauce

04 - ¼ teaspoon optional nutmeg
05 - 1 tablespoon fresh-squeezed lemon juice (optional)
06 - 6 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
07 - 1 teaspoon garlic powder
08 - 6 tablespoons plain flour
09 - 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
10 - ¼ teaspoon optional cayenne pepper
11 - ½ teaspoon table salt
12 - 3 cups whole milk

→ Topping

13 - Softened butter (4 tablespoons)
14 - 1½ cups crispy Panko crumbs
15 - Optional chopped parsley

# Steps:

01 - Set your oven to 350°F. Coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
02 - Spread the chicken, ham, and Swiss cheese evenly in the dish.
03 - Melt the butter and combine with spices. Slowly whisk in the flour, then mix in the milk a little at a time. Let it thicken for about 4 minutes.
04 - Pour the sauce on top of the cheese. Mix the softened butter with the Panko crumbs and sprinkle them over the dish.
05 - Leave uncovered and bake for 30–40 minutes until it's golden and bubbly. Wait 5 minutes after baking before cutting.

# Notes:

01 - Let it sit so the sauce sets perfectly. The Panko should be golden to get that ideal crunchy contrast.
