Arepas con Queso Delight (Print)

Golden arepas filled with gooey cheese and a crisp crust, perfect as a savory vegetarian treat or appetizer.

# Ingredients:

01 - 2 cups masarepa flour
02 - 2 teaspoons salt
03 - 2 teaspoons sugar
04 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
05 - 1½ cups mozzarella cheese, freshly shredded
06 - ¼ cup whole milk
07 - 2½ cups lukewarm water
08 - 1 teaspoon nonstick cooking spray (for skillet)

# Steps:

01 - In a large mixing bowl, combine the masarepa flour, salt, and sugar. Add the room temperature butter and shredded mozzarella cheese. Mix well to incorporate the ingredients evenly.
02 - Pour the milk and slowly add in the lukewarm water while mixing continuously. Knead the dough until smooth and manageable, adding more water if needed to achieve the right consistency.
03 - Let the dough rest for about 5 minutes.
04 - Divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and flatten into disc shapes about ½ inch thick.
05 - Heat a skillet over medium heat and spray it with nonstick cooking spray. Place the arepas on the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes on each side until a golden brown crust develops.
06 - Let the cooked arepas cool for a few minutes before serving.

01 - Adding extra sugar can enhance sweetness if desired.
