German Apple Cake (Print)

A moist apple cake with cream cheese cinnamon frosting, chopped pecans, and fresh apple toppings. Ideal for cozy autumn gatherings.

# Ingredients:

01 - 2 teaspoons cinnamon, ground.
02 - 2 cups of plain, all-purpose flour.
03 - 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt.
04 - 1 teaspoon baking soda.
05 - 3 eggs.
06 - 2 cups of granulated sugar.
07 - 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring.
08 - 1 cup of vegetable or canola oil.
09 - 3/4 cup pecan nuts, chopped.
10 - 4 cups of apples, peeled, diced, and cored.
11 - 1/2 cup softened butter.
12 - 8 ounces of cream cheese, softened.
13 - 3 cups of powdered sugar.
14 - 1 teaspoon cinnamon for frosting.
15 - 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt for frosting.
16 - Chopped pecans and slices of apple for the top.

# Steps:

01 - Set the oven to 350°F. Prep two 9-inch round pans by lining them with parchment and giving them a spray of baking spray.
02 - In a bowl, mix together the cinnamon, flour, salt, and baking soda.
03 - Whip the eggs, sugar, oil, and vanilla in a large bowl. Add the dry mix and stir until just blended. Gently fold in the pieces of apple and chopped pecans.
04 - Pour the mix into the pans evenly. Bake for around 50 minutes. Let them cool inside the pans once done baking.
05 - Using a mixer, combine butter and cream cheese. Slowly add powdered sugar, then beat in cinnamon and salt until airy.
06 - Spread frosting over one cake layer, stack the second on top, and coat the rest with frosting. Decorate with pecans and apple slices.

# Notes:

01 - Try using a 9x13 pan if preferred.
02 - Leftover frosting stays fresh in the fridge.
03 - Dipping apple slices in lemon juice keeps them from turning brown.
